Taipei, Sept. 22 (CNA) Members of an Army brigade took the high-speed railway from central to northern Taiwan Monday to expedite their participation in a military drill, while testing the possibility of using alternative means of transportation if a real war erupts, according to a military source.
The 60-odd soldiers -- wearing camouflage uniforms and face paint -- boarded the bullet trains at the Wurih Station near the central city of Taichung at 10 a.m. and got off at the Taoyuan Station in northern Taiwan in less than 40 minutes, said a spokesman for the Tenth Army Group.
By taking the high-speed rail instead of other trains or military trucks, the advance team of soldiers had adequate time to make preparations and save their energy for the war games, the spokesman said.
It marked the first time that the high-speed trains were used by military personnel during a drill.
