Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) Taiwan has conveyed its deep concerns to the U.S. State Department and relevant agencies regarding China's planned flight route close to the median of the Taiwan Strait, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) acting spokeswoman Phoebe Yeh said Tuesday.

Speaking at the MOFA's regular news briefing, Yeh said "the U.S. authorities also find this problem to be serious and will do something about it." "Such a plan can severely affect cross-strait stability and international flight safety, " she said, adding that other countries which would be affected by the new air route have also expressed their concerns to Chinese authorities.

It was disclosed Monday that China is planning to inaugurate a new flight route 4.2 nautical miles west of the median of the Taiwan Strait next January, and Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) have confirmed that Beijing has notified it via Hong Kong aviation officials regarding its new plan.

As to whether the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), of which Taiwan is not a member, has approved China's new air route, Yeh said the government has not received any such message but will keep working along with other countries through every possible channels on the issue.
