Taipei, Oct. 5 (CNA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed gratitude Friday to the U.S. House of Representatives for passing unanimously a resolution urging the executive branch to supply Taiwan with sufficient defensive weapons and services.

The U.S. House passed Resolution 676 Wednesday, declaring that the United States, conforming to the Taiwan Relations Act, should make available to Taiwan articles and services necessary to maintaining a self-sufficient defense capacity.

MOFA deputy spokeswoman Yeh Fei-bi said Friday that the resolution shows the U.S. House's solid support for Taiwan's determination to upgrade its self-defense ability.

It also indicated that the U.S. Congress is paying close attention on the growing military imbalance across the Taiwan Strait caused by China's military expansion and deployment of nearly 1,000 missiles aimed at Taiwan, Yeh said.
