Kaohsiung, Aug. 12 (CNA) Premier Chang Chun-hsiung vowed Sunday to push for Taiwan's U.N. membership, force the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) to give up its ill-gotten assets, and keep Taiwan's indigenous regime survive.

In a rally organized in this port city by the Presbyian Church in Taiwan to mark the 30th anniversary of its issuance of a human right declaration, the premier said changing the country's name from the Republic of China to Taiwan and formulating a brand-new constitution are also instrumental in fulfilling the goals unveiled in the declaration.

Noting that his administration is pushing for the transitional justice, the premier said, this would be impossible unless the country's indigenous regime could survive in the upcoming presidential elections.

The Rev. Kao Chun-ming who was chief of the Taiwan Presbyian Church when it issued the declaration under the KMT's iron-fist rule, said at the rally that he was worried about the consequences of revealing the declaration which called for Taiwan independence, but he believed a good Christian would also be a good citizen who should struggle to make the state a better place.
