NSC REPORT FOCUSES ON SECUIRTY THREATS, NEW ENVIRONMENT

Taipei, May 18 (CNA) Taiwan's first national security report, to be published later this month, focuses on national security threats from home and abroad as well as Taiwan's new security environment and strategies, government officials said Thursday.
President Chen Shui-bian presided over a National Secuirty Council (NSC) meeting earlier the same day to review the 2006 National Security Report, the first of its kind, prepared by the NSC staff after numerous rounds of consultations with relevant government agenices.
The report covers five chapters -- preface, Taiwan's new security environment, security threats from home and abroad, security strategies, and conclusion.
The report points out that "sustainable democracy" and "pursuit of dialogue and peace" should form the two "strategic axes" and backborne of Taiwan's future development blueprint.
