Taipei, April 10 (CNA) Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Chairman Joseph Wu told visiting European Parliament members Monday that the so-called "1992 Consensus" advocated by Taiwan's main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) has never existed.
Wu was referring to the KMT's claim that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait reached a "one China, respective interpretations" consensus during a meeting in Hong Kong in 1992 when the KMT was in power.
While meeting with a delegation of a pro-Taiwan caucus in the European Parliament, headed by Jose Pomes Ruiz, Wu said China has never accepted the so-called "1992 Consensus" or "one China with each side of the Strait having its own interpretations."
Wu added that China only recognizes the "one China" principle, but completely denies "one China" could mean the Republic of China as the KMT perceives it.
Wu also urged honorary KMT Chairman Lien Chan to publicly mention the term the "Republic of China" (ROC) during his upcoming China visit because Lien failed to do so while he visited China last spring.
