Taipei, April 5 (CNA) The main opposition Kuomintang may consider a long-stalled arms procurement package after Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to the United States later this month, a party official said Wednesday.

Tseng Yung-chuan, executive director of the KMT's policy coordination department, was responding to media reports that the KMT "would not passively accept" the arms procurement package broached by the United States and would come up with a new list of weapons to be included in the package. "It's just a personal idea of KMT Legislator-at-large Su Chi," Tseng said, adding that the KMT has yet to reach an intraparty consensus on the issue.

At the moment, Tseng said, the party is inclined to wait until after a meeting between Hu and U.S. President George W. Bush at the White House later this month. Issues regarding Taiwan are certainly to be raised in the upcoming Bush-Hu meeting.
