U.S. TO CONTINUE TRAINING TAIWAN PILOTS: PENTAGON
ROC Central News Agency
Washington, Oct. 26 (CNA) The Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the U.S. Defense Department announced Wednesday that it has notified Congress of the continuation of a training program for F-16 fighter pilots from Taiwan.
The agency notified Congress Tuesday of a "possible foreign military sale" to Taiwan of 10 AIM-9M Sidewinder Missiles and 5 AIM-7M Sparrow Missiles, the continuation of a pilot training program and logistics support for F-16 aircraft, as well as related equipment and services. The price tag for all of the above would be about US$280 million.
Pointing out that notifying Congress of a potential sale is required by law, the agency said that the notice does mean the sale has been concluded.
In the notice, the agency also said that the missiles would be used by Taiwan pilots for live fire exercises at the Luke Air Force Base training facility in Louisiana.
