Taipei, Sept. 26 (CNA) The United States has raised questions about Taiwan's will to defend itself because of the opposition-controlled Legislative Yuan's repeated pulling of the plug on a budget bill for the purchase of a major arms package from the U.S., Vice Defense Minister Michael Tsai said Monday.

Speaking at a training camp organized by the National Defense University for senior civic officers and military officials, the vice minister said war in the 21st Century depends not only on weaponry but also on the people's will to defend themselves.

The vie minister said the opposition parties, however, have raised questions in Washington about Taiwan's determination to defend itself by repeatedly refusing to act on the budget for the arms purchase.
