Taipei, July 5 (CNA) A Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) official called on China Tuesday to take action and start talks with Taiwan instead of just paying lip service.
The official made the call after Chen Yunlin, director of China's Taiwan Affairs Office, urged Taiwan earlier in the day to contact China as soon as possible to arrange for negotiations on issues including the launch of cross-Taiwan Strait chartered cargo flights, Taiwan's agricultural exports to China and expanding visits to Taiwan by Chinese tourists.
Chen spoke of the matter during a meeting in Beijing with a delegation comprising members of Taiwan's hi-tech sector led by opposition Kuomintang Vice Chairman P.K. Chiang.
According to MAC Vice Chairman You Ying-lung, Chen's remarks "seem positive and friendly, " but Beijing needs to "take concrete action to show its sincerity."
Pointing out that the government assigned related organizations to contact Beijing last month to arrange for negotiations on the issues, You said Beijing should authorize counterpart organizations to hold authorized talks immediately if it is truly sincere about its offer.
