Taipei, April 29 (CNA) The Marine Corps formed a new rapid-response brigade Friday to cope with contingencies in northern Taiwan.
The new rapid-response brigade will be based at a military camp in Taoyuan County's Kueishan township, some 50 kilometers south of Taipei.
After the commissioning ceremony, the new brigade demonstrated its rapid-response combat prowess, including installing howitzers in three minutes to destroy invading enemy forces.
The formation of the new brigade is part of the military's efforts to build an elite deterrent force in the face of China's mounting military threat and to cope with decapitation strike strategies, marine sources said.
