Taipei, April 5 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian continued trying to prevent Beijing from interfering in Taiwan's politics by convening a major meeting of officials from the Presidential Office, the Executive Yuan and the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Tuesday, a DPP official said.
The meeting was aimed at clarifying the government's position on cross-Taiwan Strait issues in the face of visits to China by domestic political leaders, particularly those of the opposition camp, according to Ker Chien-ming, director of the DPP's policy committee.
Taiwan will descend into anarchy should the government fail to take action in the face of the current situation, he added.
The meeting, which was attended by Vice President Annette Lu, Presidential Office Secretary General Yu Shyi-kun, Deputy Secretary-General Ma Yung-cheng, Presidential Office Director Lin Teh-hsun, National Security Council Secretary-General Chiou I-jen, Premier Frank Hsieh, Vice Premier Wu Rong-i, Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan Lee Ying-yuan, Cabinet spokesman Cho Jung-tai, Foreign Affairs Minister Tan Sun Chen, Mainland Affairs Council Chairman Joseph Wu, DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang, DPP Secretary-General Lee Yi-yang, Ker Chien-ming, and the DPP caucus whips in the legislature Chao Yung-ching and William C.T. Lai, reached a seven-point conclusion, including that cross-Taiwan Strait exchanges should abide by the law.
