Taipei, March 22 (CNA) The People's Liberation Army has not conducted abnormal military activities or maneuvering since China's enactment of its so-called Anti-Secession Law targeting Taiwan, a senior Ministry of National Defense (MND) official said Tuesday.
Hu Chen-pu, director of the MND's POlitical Warfare Department, said China's ill-intentioned legislation, which authorizes the use of force or "non-peaceful means" against Taiwan, has gravely threatened Taiwan's national security and peace and stability in the entire Asia-Pacific region.
Even though China's People's Liberation Army has so far not taken any abnormal military activities, Hu said, Taiwan must upgrade its defense capabilities to safeguard its national security. "I hope local people and lawmakers can support the MND's new arms procurement project to meet the antion's defense demand," Hu said, referring to its plan to procure six Patriot PAC III anti-missile batteries, eight diesel-electric submarines and 12 P-3C anti-submarine aircraft from the United States.
