Taipei, March 7 (CNA) Police reported on Monday progress in the investigations into the mysterious election-eve shooting of President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu, saying that two men who have since died in separate suspected suicides were probably connected with the shooting.
President Chen and Vice President Lu were slightly wounded on March 19, 2004 when two bullets grazed their bodies as they campaigned in an open-topped jeep in the southern Taiwan city of Tainan, a day ahead of the presidential election.
One suspect, identified as Chen Yi-hsiung, was found drowned in Anping in Tainan City on March 28 last year, while another, identified by his family name of Huang, was found dead at his home of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound May 26, 2004.
Ho You-yi, director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (cib) under the National Police Administration who concurrently serves as deputy convener of the 319 shooting investigative team, was holding a news conference late Monday morning explaining details of progress in the investigations.
