Taipei, March 3 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian decried Thursday Beijing's proposed anti-secession law as a dangerous move to alter the status quo across the Taiwan Strait.
Chen told a group of foreign ministers from Taiwan's allies in Central America that the mainland will use the law to provide a legal basis for a possible attack on Taiwan.
Noting that the mainland is targeting Taiwan with 706 missiles, which poses a serious threat to the stability in the Asia-Pacific region, Chen called on the international community not to turn a blind eye to the mainland's attempts to expand its territory because of the potential economic benefit in tapping the mainland market.
The ministers were in Taiwan for an annual economic conference.
