2004-04-09 20:30:49

Taipei, April 9 (CNA) Dr. Henry Lee, a Chinese-American frensic expert asked to help Taiwan invesitgators to look into the March 19 shooting of President Chen Shui-bian said Friday he would share with the public his findings at a news conference before he leave for the United States on Sunday, as long as it wouldn't hamper the investigation.

Lee who arrived in Taipei along four other U.S. frensic experts earlier the day said he and his experts team had visited Presdient Chen Shui-bian to examine the wound caused by the shooting to his abodmen, inspecting the scene of the shooting in Tainan City, talking to medical staff at the Chimei Medical Center where Chen sought treatment after the incident, talked to prosecutors in charge with the investigation and exame the evidence kept by the Criminal Investigation Bureau in Taipei.

Lee said the Criminal Investigation Bureau has done a good job in preserving the evidence, and it is out of question that the evidence counld be contaminated.

Lee said he found a machin mark on the bullet which landed in the president' jacket after leaving a eleven centimeters long wound on his abodomen.

But what significance of that mark is still unknowned, said Lee.

There is no trace of ammunition powder on the president's jacket, Lee said, adding it might be because the shot was fired far away from Chen or the gun's muzzle from which the bullet came was wrapped with clothes.

He denied that he charged a high fee for his work on this case, saying he did this free.
