U.S. Condemns Shooting of President, Vice-President of Taiwan
State Department March 19 statement
The United States strongly condemns the March 19 shooting of President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu of Taiwan, Deputy State Department Spokesman Adam Ereli said March 19.

STATEMENT BY ADAM ERELI, DEPUTY SPOKESMAN
Taiwan - Wounding of President, Vice President
We learned this morning of the shooting on Friday local time in Taiwan of President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Lu in Tainan. The United States strongly condemns this act of violence in Taiwan yesterday, and all acts of violence intended to disrupt the democratic process.
We are grateful to hear that neither was seriously injured. Our thoughts are with their families, as we extend our sincere wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
