MORE FLIGHTS SET TO FLY TO AND FROM MAINLAND DURING LUNAR NEW YEAR

2003-12-15 22:15:51

Taipei, Dec. 15 (CNA) Local carriers have lined up 60 extra flights between Taiwan and Hong Kong, or Taiwan and Macau during the Chinese Lunar New Year to serve Taiwan businessmen in the mainland in light of the fact that the plan for charter flights between Shanghai and Taiwan is still surrounded by uncertainty.

The extra 60 flights will provide an additional 18,000 seats on these route before and after the Chinese Lunar New Year which falls on Jan. 22.

To ease the shortage of flight tickets on these two routes during this traditional family reunion season, China Airlines will provide 40 additional flights, while EVA Airways will put on eight flights on the Taiwan-Hong Kong route and seven flights on its Taiwan-Macau route.

TransAsia Airways, which provides service between Taiwan and Macau, has not yet decided how many flights it will add during the holiday season, probably two to four.

The extra flights will help cope with the heavy traffic during this time of the year between Taiwan and mainland China when Taiwanese businessmen in the mainland flock back to their homeland in Taiwan before the Lunar New Year and return to their mainland businesses afterward.
