Taipei, May 2 (CNA) A spokesman for the Republic of China Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that there is no sign indicating that mainland China is going to stage a large-scale war game in the immediate future.
He said that the mainland Chinese army, navy and air force have conducted "routine military training activities" recently, but there is no evidence of a massing of troops or other preparations for large-scale maneuvers.
The spokesman noted that the ROC Defense Ministry has kept close surveillance on mainland Chinese military activities, and added that related information will be made public as long as it does not endanger the intelligence source and the nation's security.
Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry urged Taiwan's public to trust in the capabilities of the Patriot anti-missile systems purchased from the United States.
The ministry noted that the efficiency of the systems was made clear during the Persian Gulf War, adding that the Patriot systems had seen many improvements since then.
It also noted that Taiwan military personnel operating the Patriot missiles have passed strict US tests for the systems. (By Victor Lai)
