At least one person has been killed after Israeli aircraft launched an attack against a residential neighborhood in Syria's southwestern province of Quneitra near the occupied Golan Heights.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the Israeli army struck a house in Turnejeh village, north of Quneitra, killing a young resident on Tuesday.
Local media outlets earlier reported an overnight raid conducted by Israeli forces in the village of Suwaisa, also located in Quneitra.
During the offensive, Israeli troops discharged flare shells into the sky and carried out searches in the area. They faced resistance from local residents.
A young citizen was apprehended by Israeli military forces, local sources said on condition of anonymity.
The most recent assault marks the fourth Israeli incursion targeting Quneitra in August. The territory is situated within the disengagement zone of the occupied Golan Heights.
On December 8, 2024, militant groups, spearheaded by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, overthrew Assad's administration.
Since the downfall of Assad, the Israeli military has been conducting airstrikes, targeting military installations, facilities, and arsenals associated with Syria's former army.
Israel has faced significant criticism for its decision to terminate the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria, and taking advantage of the turmoil in the Arab nation following Assad's ouster, to make a land grab.
The United Nations has denounced the persistent Israeli assaults within Syrian territory, as well as the ongoing breaches occurring in and around the buffer zone established by the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Damascus.
