After the Israeli regime attacked Syria, the US president's inner circle has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "madman" who bombs any place he dislikes and undermines Donald Trump's plan for the region.
According to a report published by Axios, despite the US-brokered ceasefire that halted the escalation of violence in Syria, Trump's inner circle is significantly more alarmed about Netanyahu and his regional policies.
"Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time ... This could undermine what Trump is trying to do," one White House official said, referring to Netanyahu by his nickname.
Another US official said, "Netanyahu is ... like a child who just will not behave," and there is growing skepticism inside the Trump administration about his disruptive behavior.
A third official said the damage the Israelis had done to their standing at the White House over the past week did not seem to be breaking through to them.
Trump has so far refrained from public criticism of Netanyahu, and it is unclear if he shares his advisers' frustrations over Israel's actions in Syria.
On Tuesday, Israel bombed a convoy of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) army tanks en route to the city of Suwayda in response to violent clashes between Druze minority groups and Bedouin tribesmen, which had resulted in the deaths of over 700 people as of Saturday, according to the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
In defiance of the call, Israel escalated the strikes and on Wednesday dropped bombs on the military headquarters of the HTS and near the presidential palace.
The bombing of Syria took Trump and his administration by surprise, as they believed they could control Netanyahu.
The US ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, announced on Sunday that Syria and Israel agreed to a ceasefire, following days of intense Israeli airstrikes and violence in Syria's Suwayda region.
The HTS regime also declared an "immediate ceasefire" and called on "all parties to fully respect" the truce.
Israel claimed its strikes in Syria were aimed at protecting Syria's Druze minority.
The HTS regime in Syria has condemned Israel's intervention as a violation of international law.
Following the Israeli attacks, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, leader of the HTS-led regime in Damascus, had said in a televised speech early on Thursday that protecting the country's Druze citizens and their rights was a priority, and though Syria would prefer to avoid a conflict with Israel, it was not afraid of war.
