Servicemen of Russian grouping of forces in Syria organise joint comprehensive drills with Syrian special forces units

The Syrian Arab Army 25th Special Forces Division undergo joint comprehensive airborne drills under supervision of Russian instructors.

The Russian Aerospace Forces military transport and army aviation were used in the airdrop operation.

In the course of the drill, servicemen performed over 1,500 jumps in desert areas of Aleppo province, mountainous areas of Latakia province, and over waters of Mediterranean Sea.

For the first time in history of Syrian Arab Army, Syrian servicemen performed mass airdrop operation at night from Russian Aerospace Forces Il-76 aircraft with free fall using Arbalet-2 special purpose parachute systems and night vision equipment at altitude of 5,000 metres.

The final stage of the drills included capturing mock enemy airfield. Over 100 special forces servicemen equipped with small arms, RPG-7D man-portable grenade launchers, RPG-26 and AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers dropped from Russian Aerospace Forces Mi-8MTSH helicoptes using Arbalet-2 special purpose parachute systems at altitude of 4,000 metres gliding at a range of more than 8 kilometres. Mock enemy firing points were neutralised by small arms and grenade launches fire from the air during parachute descent.

At the same time with action of servicemen at the airfield, special forces group dropped over waters of Mediterranean Sea, captured and blocked a shoreline area to prevent mock enemy withdrawal from the liberated airfield and eliminate enemy troops.

Russian Aerospace Forces Ka-52 combat helicopters supports actions of Syrian servicemen on the ground.

Actions and training of the Syrian servicemen were highly praised by the command of the grouping of troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Syrian Arab Republic and the Syrian Arab Army.

A total of more than 500 Syrian paratroopers have been trained under the airborne training programme under the supervision of Russian servicemen. Servicemen from the Syrian Arab Army 25th Special Forces Division are capable of high-altitude parachuting in combat situations using the Arbalet-2 and Berkut-2 special-purpose parachute systems.

During the training period in 2022 and 2023, Syrian paratroopers performed more than 17,500 parachute jumps, including more than 8,000 at night.

More than 20 members of the Syrian Arab Army have been qualified as parachute instructors and were allowed to independently train personnel in parachuting.

The process of establishing a modern airmobile force in the Syrian Arab Republic will continue.
