Pakistan condemns US decision on Syrian Golan Heights

Islamabad, March 27, IRNA -- Pakistan has strongly condemned the US Administration's decision to recognize Zionist Regime's occupation over Syrian Golan Heights.

Foreign Ministry in a statement said Pakistan joins the international community in voicing its strong opposition to the US Administration's decision.

"This decision represents a serious violation of UN Charter, international law and applicable UN Security Council Resolutions, particularly 497 (1981)," it added.

The statement further said that US decision constitutes a serious blow to the Rule of Law and international norms.

"Pakistan shares the international outrage and is deeply concerned over the potentially grave repercussions of this decision for the region and beyond," it said.

Pakistan calls upon the UN Security Council to take cognizance of this situation and take steps in accordance with the UN Charter.

US President Donald Trump has recently signed a proclamation recognizing Zionist regime's sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Earlier Trump in a tweet had said: After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

The fact is that the Golan is Syrian territory illegally occupied by Zionist regime and recognized by the world as such.

Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi had stated that the impetuous personal decision of US President is pushing the sensitive region of the Middle East toward consecutive crises.
