Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized that Iran will stay in Syria as long as it is needed, terrorism threat is not eliminated and the Syrian government requires aid.

In a press conference held on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, "Iran's presence in Syria has been legitimate and under the request of Damascus. Our main purpose is to fight against terrorism and eliminate it in this country such that Syria's territorial integrity is protected".

About the reports that Russia has wanted Iran to withdraw from Syria, he stressed, "No one can make Iran to do something against its will. Iran is an independent country that pursues its own policies based on its regional and global interests".

"All those should leave Syria who entered the country without approval of the Syrian government and violate the territorial integrity of the country," Mr. Qassemi went on to say.
