The society of Syria is more unified at present than it was before the civil war began, most Syrians would not accept anything related to the country's "disintegration," Syrian President Bashar Assad told the RT broadcaster.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The majority of Syrians oppose the idea of weakening of the state and root for the country's territorial integrity, Syrian President Bashar Assad added.

"But actually, if you look at the society today, the Syrian society is more unified than before the war. This is reality. I'm not saying anything to raise the morale of anyone, I'm not talking to Syrian audience anyway now, I'm talking about the reality …. So, after nearly six years, I can tell you the majority of the Syrians wouldn't accept anything related to disintegration, they are going to live as one Syria," Assad said.

"The majority of citizens reject the very possibility to sacrifice in any way the unity of the country, form of government or political system in its current form," Assad told Rossiya 24 broadcaster.

He added that any proposal on constitutional changes in Syria was impossible while the war in the country goes on.

The opposition and Damascus, along with the mediators, have been engaged in UN-brokered settlement talks. The latest round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Geneva in April. The opposition High Negotiations Committee walked out of the negotiations, citing the continuous fighting in Syria and the lack of progress on humanitarian issues. HNC transition plans included constitutional revision in its final stage.

"We are discussing this issue [constitutional amendments] now, but any proposal to amend the Constitution cannot be implemented in the time of war, as the referendum needs different conditions," Assad said.
