Militants surrounded by the Syrian army southwest of Damascus have surrendered to the government, Syrian media reported Monday.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) – The terms of the surrender require Jabhat Fatah al Sham (formerly al-Nusra Front) militants to leave their positions in Khan al-Shih and give up their weapons, the Al Watan newspaper said.

The area has been surrounded by the government forces since the beginning of October. Since then, militants several times attempted to break though the encirclement from different directions.

They attacked with heavy artillery attacks on the Syrian army. However, none of the militants have managed to escape.

Last week, Syrian servicemen found underground tunnels in Khan al-Shi, the length of which was some 700 meters. They were used by al-Nusra Front terrorists to transport weapons and ammunition for attacks in Damascus suburbs.
