German fighter jets depart for Syria military mission

Berlin, Dec 10, IRNA -- German combat jets took off from Germany on Thursday en route to the Syrian military mission, according to German media.

Two Tornado reconassaince combat jets and a military transport plane, carrying 40 soldiers and military equipment, set course for the Turkish military air base Incirlik where they will be deployed for the Syrian air operations.

The full contingent of six German Tornados won't be flying their first missions over Syria until the new year.

An air-to-air refuelling plane was also scheduled to take off for Turkey from an airbase near Cologne later in the day.

Last week, the German parliament gave green light to the military operation in Syria, estimated to cost 139 million euros.

Germany plans to deploy up to 1200 soldiers soldiers in Syria, in addition to stationing six Tornado reconnaissance jets, a naval frigate, aerial refuelling and satellite images in the fight against Daesh.
