Syrian government forces have cut off a key supply route of foreign-backed militants in southern Syria used to transport arms and ammunition from neighboring Jordan.

Syrian troops liberated several villages and towns in the southern province of Dara'a Monday morning while encircling several other villages, where Takfiri terrorists were entrenched, state news agency SANA and opposition-linked groups reported.

'This new victory... reopens and secures the vital road between Dara'a and Sweida (another southern province) and cuts off the supply route for armed terrorist groups,' said a Syrian army statement as cited in local and foreign press reports.

Meanwhile, an opposition-linked group, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed that Syrian forces had cut off 'a main supply route' that the foreign-sponsored militants used to bring in backup forces and weaponry from the Syrian border with Jordan to the terrorist stronghold of al-Lajjat.

Director of the UK-based group Rami Abdel Rahman further confirmed that following heavy clashes, Syrian government troops captured the villages around the militant-held town of Busr al-Harir.

According to the Syrian army statement, the town served as a 'gateway' for Takfiri terror elements and arms heading north into Damascus province.

SANA also cited Syrian military sources as saying that the special military operation left a high number of Takfiri terrorists killed.

This is while Jordan, a close US ally, has served as a key supply source for foreign-backed militants fighting to overthrow the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Jordan's military bases have also been used by US forces to train the anti-Damascus militants.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 220,000 people, according to reports.

The Takfiri terrorist groups, with members from several Western countries, control swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, and have been carrying out horrific acts of violence such as public decapitations and crucifixions against all communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
