Fierce exchanges of fire have broken out between members of the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front and militants from another Takfiri group, affecting several areas in the northwestern part of Syria.

The clashes erupted on Thursday after al-Nusra Front terrorists stormed and took control of positions held by the foreign-sponsored Hazzm Movement west of the conflict-ridden Aleppo Province.

A member of Hazzm Movement, speaking on condition of anonymity, said clashes have spread to neighboring Idlib Province, adding that members of his militant group have seized some areas previously under control of al-Nusra Front.

"There is now fighting in Idlib, in the Jabal al-Zawiya area," he added.

The news of more infighting between militant groups comes as Syrian government forces advanced in the militant-infested parts of the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, and killed dozens of militants.

The Syrian forces also engaged foreign-backed militants in the western city of Homs, located 162 kilometers (100 miles) north of the capital, Damascus, killing a number of them.

Officials said the army soldiers also raided a hideout being used by the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Tell Brak district of the northern province of Hasakah, and killed all the militants inside.

Reports also said Syrian government forces made advances against militants in Jabal al-Arbaeen area of Idlib.

Over 200,000 people have been killed in the crisis in Syria since nearly four years ago, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year alone.
