TEHRAN (ISNA)- An Iranian senior official said Syrian issue would have been settled, if Turkish President had not made obstacles due to its ambitious tendencies.

'Unfortunately, Turkish meddling in Syria has prolonged the war and led to displacement and enormous human casualties. Syrian issue would have been solved if Turkey had not made obstacles due to its ambitious tendencies and emotional disagreements,' the official said.

The remarks came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently claimed that his country disagrees with the United States, Russia and Iran separately over their stances on Syria.

The official added that if Turkish officials did not stress removing 'Syrian legitimate government' and 'supporting terrorists', the Syrian conflict had come to an end.

The senior Iranian official also noted that Iran attaches considerable importance for ties with Turkey. 'We hope that the process of ties between the two sides will not be damaged by repeating these remarks.'
