Syrian military forces have continued operations against militants across the country, inflicting more blows on the foreign-backed armed groups.
During Wednesday operations, army units destroyed a militant weapon and ammunition cache in Hreitan in the northern province of Aleppo, killing all the armed militants in the area, Syrian state news agency SANA reported.
Another army unit killed over 25 militants in Kherbet al-Mashir and targeted staging areas of intruding elements in Tal Sosin, Tal Refaat, Handarat, Tal Jabin, the industrial city, Atareb, Kafar Hamra and al-Kastello, killing or injuring many militants and eliminating their weaponry.
In the outskirts of Homs, government troops further thwarted an infiltration attempt by the militants from Talbisa toward al-Molouk point, inflicting heavy losses on the militants.
This is while an army unit foiled another infiltration bid toward Tal al-Ansar in the same area, killing numerous armed militants.
In a Damascus countryside, the army eliminated militants, some of whom were identified as Saudi nationals, and destroyed their hideouts north of al-Mleiha, in addition to eliminating armed intruders near the town of al-Qasimiye in Eastern Ghouta.
In Douma area, the army destroyed another militant staging area in Aaliya farms, while a series of operations were carried out in Jobar, resulting in the death of scores armed elements.
Syrian forces also discovered a 150-meter tunnel that links Douma farms with Harasta Highway in the far suburbs of Damascus. The tunnel, which was equipped with lights and ventilation, was destroyed by the army troops and two militants found inside were detained.
Additionally, an army unit destroyed a militant staging area in Naheta in al-Hrak in Daraa province, killing eight armed men that included a Jordanian nation from the al-Nusra Front terrorist group, according to the SANA report.
Elsewhere in Daraa, government forces killed and injured numerous more militants in Kherbet Hamman, al-Waara and al-Najed farm, as well as Atman town, further destroying a vehicle while carrying a number of armed men.
The development comes as the country is preparing for presidential election on June 3.
Damascus insists that it would hold the election despite the foreign-backed militancy, which has, according to some sources, killed over 150,000 people and displaced millions of others since it erupted in Syria in March 2011.
