Syrian forces have managed to retake control of parts of a town in Syria's west-central Hama Province as the army continues to make more gains in the fight against Takfiri militants.

According to reports, Syrian army units recaptured parts of Morek in the suburbs of the Syrian west-central city of Hama following heavy clashes with foreign-backed terrorists operating in the area on Thursday.

Morek had fallen into the hands of extremist militants last month.

Meanwhile, Syrian soldiers also defused two roadside bombs planted on the main road between Hama and the northern city of Mhardeh.

On April 23, about 40 foreign-backed militants turned themselves in with their weapons to Syrian authorities in the suburbs of Hama as government forces continued to advance further in the city.

The recent development comes as the Syrian army has achieved major victories in its battle against Takfiri groups across the Arab country, particularly in the western region of Qalamoun near the Lebanese border, over the past months.

The new army gains come as the violence-stricken country is preparing to hold an important presidential election on June 3.

Syria has been the scene of a deadly turmoil since March 2011. Reports say more than 140,000 people have so far been killed and millions of others displaced because of the foreign-sponsored turmoil.

Earlier this month, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the Takfiri war in his country has strongly shifted in favor of the government forces as they have made continuous gains in their battle against terrorists.

President Assad has also pledged to strike terror "with an iron fist."
