Syria army continues operations against militants

The Syrian army has continued its mop-up operations against foreign-backed militants across the country, inflicting heavy losses on them.
The army units foiled infiltration attempts by the militants, who are fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in the northern countryside of Latakia province where the clashes are still underway, the official SANA news agency reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the army units killed scores of militants in the area and destroyed their heavy weaponry.
The army's operations also kept going on against the militants in the countryside of the capital, Damascus.
Syrian troops killed six militants and injured five others in Douma area. The troops also confiscated their weapons and equipment.
Elsewhere, Syrian soldiers killed two more militants in Jobra.
The army conducted a series of special operations in the towns of Hosh Arab, Rankous and al-Ruhaibeh in al-Qalamoun area near Damascus area, destroying militants' hideouts and killing a number of them.
Qalamoun region is used by the militants to cross into Syria from Lebanon.
The army also launched large-scale operations in Aleppo, inflicting heavy losses on the militants.
In the countryside of Daraa, the troops foiled an attack by militants against an army checkpoint, killing many of them and injuring several others.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Some sources say over 140,000 people have been killed and million others displaced due to the violence fueled by Western-backed militants.
