UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi says resumption of talks between Damascus and the foreign-backed opposition is 'out of the question" for the moment
'A return to Geneva is out of question for the time being because the criteria have not been met,' Brahimi said ahead of an Arab League summit in Kuwait City on Monday.
On February 15, the second round of negotiations collapsed in the Swiss city of Geneva.
The talks were aimed at finding a political solution to the deadly crisis that has gripped Syria since March 2011.
The talks between delegations representing the Syrian government and the foreign-backed opposition groups deadlocked with both sides sticking to their positions. No new date was set for the two sides to resume the third round of talks.
The Syrian delegation said fighting terrorism should be the top priority while the opposition insisted that the formation of a transitional government and resignation of President Bashar al-Assad must come first.
Syria's unrest, which entered its fourth year this March, has killed over 140,000 people and forced millions of others out of their homes.
According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
