The Syrian army is pushing ahead with its clean-up operations against foreign-sponsored militants in several areas across the country.

On Wednesday, the army continued its mop-up operations in several villages of the northern countryside of Lattakia, official SANA news agency reported.

According to a military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the army killed 17 militants in Beit Aouan village.

The source also added that the army killed 19 "terrorists" and injured 17 others in al-Kaber village while destroying a car equipped with a heavy machinegun.

Similar operations were carried out in the villages of Droshan, al-Rawda and al-Dura, he said.

In the village of Salma, the Syrian troops killed 42 "terrorists" and injured 61 others during their operations, the source noted.

Elsewhere, in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian government forces clashed with armed terrorist groups in al-Sinaa and al-Haweiqa neighborhoods of the city, killing scores of the militants.

Moreover, the Syrian army continued the process of evacuating over 6000 citizens, seized by foreign-backed militants, from Adra, near the capital Damascus, on Tuesday.

In recent weeks, the Syrian army has made major advances in its fight against the armed groups.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to reports, Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence.
