Germany’s Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere says he sees no outside military intervention in Syria.

Maiziere said on Sunday that he does not “see an outside military intervention in this terrible civil war in Syria.”

The administration of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has given support for a political and diplomatic solution to the unrest in Syria. It opposes any use of force.

The German defense minister added, “The West should not think they can solve problems by military means in the Middle East.”

The United Nations says over 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the turmoil that has gripped Syria since March 2011.

Russia warned the United States on Sunday against the extremely dangerous consequences of military action against Syria.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel repeated on the same day that the US military was ready to take action against Syria if President Barack Obama gives the green light.

France and the Israeli regime have called for military action against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

President Assad said in a recent interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia that any military intervention by the US would end in “failure.”
