The Syrian Army says it has killed scores of foreign-backed militants, including a large number of foreign nationals, and seized their weapons during operations across the country.

The army units "killed and injured many terrorists in a number of towns and villages" in the northwestern province of Idlib on Sunday, the official SANA news agency reported.

A Syrian official said that the army "destroyed terrorist dens in al-Janoudiyeh, al-Qeniyeh, Kefr Rohin, al-Hebat and Jabal al-Arbaain, with their weapons and ammunition."

The official added that "a unit of the armed forces foiled a terrorist attempt to detonate two explosive devices -- each of them weighed 50 kilograms, in al-Mastoumeh village."

The army also killed and injured several militants, including foreigners, in southwestern province of Daraa, and destroyed their weapons.

A military source said that "the army units killed scores of terrorists in the towns and villages of al-Basala, Saida, al-Hanout, al-Abdaleh, Sahem al-Golan, Tafas, Tasil, Adwan and al-Kseibeh."

Several Jordanian, Saudi Arabian, Kuwaiti, Tunisian, and Libyan militants were also killed in Daraa.

The Syrian armed forces killed scores of militants, including foreigners, in and around Damascus. In addition, the army captured many machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and hand-made rockets.

The army also killed and wounded many members of armed groups in the provinces of Aleppo, Homs and Deir ez-Zor.

The government troops have recently conducted successful clean-up operations across the country, inflicting heavy losses on the militants.

The Syrian Army's push against the militants rattled their sponsors.

Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said on June 26 that Saudi Arabia is trembling with fear because of the Syrian Army's recent gains against the militants.

In a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Jeddah on June 25, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal insisted that the militants in Syria must be armed with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons.

Zoubi said that the Saudi weapons and money is the main reason behind bloodshed in Syria, adding that Faisal "is lost in the Syrian blood."

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.
