Syrian government troops have gained ground in clashes against the foreign-backed militants in two neighborhoods in the western city of Homs.
On Friday, the government troops advanced in the city's northern neighborhoods of Khaldiyeh and Jouret el-Shayah following clashes with the foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, state TV reported.
The gains follow a major offensive by the army launched in late June to recapture areas held by the Takfiri militants in Homs.
On the same day, the government forces continued their operations in Aleppo, making advances in its neighborhoods including al-Rashidin, al-Lairamoun, al-Khalidiyeh, Salah-Eddin and al-Amiriyeh.
Moreover, the Syrian troops killed a number of militants and destroyed their weapons and equipment in Einjareh area in the western countryside of Aleppo.
On Thursday, Syrian army units cleared the village of Misbin near Ariha in the Idlib countryside of the militants and captured a hideout used to make explosives.
The army also killed and wounded many members of armed groups in the governorates of Damascus, Dara'a, and Hama. Several militants were also reportedly killed during the operations.
The Syrian Army's push against the militants have rattled their sponsors.
In a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Jeddah, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal insisted on June 25 that the militants in Syria must be armed with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons.
The unrest in Syria erupted in March 2011. According to the UN, more than 100,000 people have been killed in the country since the outbreak of the turmoil.
