The Syrian army has ambushed a group of foreign-backed militants heading toward the western strategic city of al-Qusayr in Homs Province.
The Syrian troops destroyed a vehicle carrying the militants and their weapons and ammunitions on Monday.
Qusayr is located near Syria's border with Lebanon and is now mostly under the control of the Syrian army. Syrian troops entered Qusayr from several directions on May 19 after weeks of clashes with militants.
The city has been an important center and supply route for the foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the Damascus government.
Meanwhile, the government forces killed another batch of militants who were trying to flee from Qusayr.
Hundreds of militants have reportedly arrived in Qusayr to counter the Syrian government forces, who backed by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, have made major gains in the fighting.
The Syrian army forces also mounted an assault to take over the control of Kfar Hamra countryside near the northwestern city of Aleppo.
Scores of foreign-sponsored militants were killed or injured in the army attack targeting their gathering in the town of Idlib.
On Sunday, the government forces drove back a group of militants attempting to infiltrate Syria through the Lebanese border.
Syria has been gripped by unrest for more than two years. The foreign-sponsored militancy has taken its toll on the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel.
