Syria friends meeting in Tehran aims to settle crisis peacefully, envoy

New York, May 23, IRNA -- Iranian envoy said the welcoming attitudes of world countries and international organizations towards the upcoming meeting of Syria's friends in Tehran indicates the growing tendency of the International community towards the peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis and Iran's role in promoting the objective.
Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaee, in a statement, reiterated that it also proves the Islamic Republic's key role in this peaceful approach.
He further noted that the third meeting of the Syria friends is slated for May 29, 2013 in Tehran as a follow up to the two previous ones also held in the Iranian capital.
He said Iran believes the upcoming meeting could pave the way for further coordination among the countries which are Syria's true friends to help the country overcome the crisis.
He hoped the meeting could result in working out of a practical solution to the Syrian crisis.
The warm welcome the meeting has received by the world countries and the international bodies indicates a firm global will to find a peaceful solution to the problem while focusing on Iran's role in settling the crisis, he added.
Khazaee further pointed to Iran's ceaseless efforts to play its due role in the settlement of the crisis.
