The Syrian Army says it has killed more foreign-backed militants and seized their weapons during an ongoing operation across the country.
Syrian government forces launched attacks against militants in Harasta, Bastara and al-Ebb farms in al-Ghouta al-Sharqieh in Damascus countryside on Sunday and killed a large number of them, the official SANA news agency reported.
In addition, the Syrian armed forces captured weapons and ammunition inside a tunnel. They also destroyed five vehicles along with a large number of weapons and ammunition inside them.
Syrian troops also killed a number of militants and several of their leaders in Kafer Dael, Babiss, Khan al-Assal and Kafr Naha in the countryside outside Aleppo.
The Syrian troops have also seized many weapons, including thermal anti-tank missiles and machineguns in Joubar, al-Soultania and Kafer ay'a areas in Homs countryside.
The Army also killed and wounded many members of armed groups in the governorates of Idlib, Daraa and Hama. Several insurgents were also reportedly killed during the operations.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of Army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
The Syrian government has said that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and that a very large number of the militants operating in the country are foreign nationals.
Several international human rights organizations have accused foreign-sponsored militants of committing war crimes.
In an interview recently broadcast on German television, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that the government did not start the conflict and the militant groups were the ones killing Syrian citizens and destroying the country's infrastructure.
