Car Bombs Kill At Least 22 In Northern Syria

January 16, 2013

Three car bombs reportedly have exploded in Syria's northern province of Idlib, killing at least 22 people.

An unnamed Syrian government official said the explosions struck a major highway and a roundabout.

At least 35 people were reportedly injured in the attack.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the Idlib bombings targeted the local security headquarters.

The rights group said there were several casualties but did not elaborate.

The bombings come a day after massive blasts on a university campus in the northern city of Aleppo killed 87 people.

The government and the rebels fighting against President Bashar al-Assad's regime have blamed each other for the Aleppo attacks.
