Iranian diplomat says Iran has not sent arms to Syria via Iraq

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Oct 10, IRNA -- Iran’s consul in Basra Hamid-Reza Mokhtasabadi on Wednesday ruled out rumors that Iran had shipped arms to Syria via Iraq.

Mokhtasabdi called for settlement of Syria crisis through peaceful ways.

Addressing a press conference in Baghdad, Mokhtasabadi said the claim was proved to be false when Iraq checked Iranian planes destined to Syria and found no arms there.

He stressed that the US should stop forcing the Iraqi government to check Iranian planes.

He said Syria incidents require all to find a political solution free from any tension and majority of Syrians support their government. He opined that foreign pressures on Syria aim to take revenge on Syrian President Bashar Assad for his support for resistance movements.
