Russia Rejects Link to Turkish Jet Shoot-Down
18:30 01/10/2012 MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Media claims concerning Russia’s involvement in the downing of a Turkish combat jet by Syrian air defense in June are utter nonsense, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Saudi-owned Al Arabiya news channel has claimed it obtained top-secret documents allegedly implicating the Russian military in helping the Syrian air defense to shoot down a Turkish Air Force RF-4E reconnaissance aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea.
“It is ridiculous even to comment on such rubbish, but, unfortunately, we have to do it,” the ministry said in a statement.
“These deliberate fantasies are based on the alleged 'intelligence database,' obtained by Al Arabiya from open sources, including RIA Novosti’s official website,” the statement said.
“The authors of this fake did not even bother to remove a respective logo from the allegedly ‘secret document’,” the commentary said.
