IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA -- Visiting Foreign Minister of Lebanon Adnan Mansour welcomed on Wednsday a plan by Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi to form a contact group to settle Syrian crisis calling it a helpful move.

"The issue of Syria can only be solved through diplomatic ways," said the Lebanese minister while speaking to reporters at the end of a meeting with head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Hassan Mousavi.

The Egyptian president has recently proposed a contact group be formed by Iran, Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia to settle Syrian crisis.

Given the importance of its four member states in the region, the contact group could have a practical effect on resolving Syrian crisis, Mansour said.

Referring to hosting the 16th NAM Summit by Iran, the Lebanese minister said the event indicated Iran's significant status both in the region and worldwide.

The 16th NAM Summit is to be held in the Iranian capital on August 30-31.
