UN Monitors Visit Site Of Tremseh Massacre

July 14, 2012

A UN spokeswoman says UN observers have visited the central Syrian village of Tremseh where up to 200 people were reportedly killed by government forces on July 12.

UN monitors who traveled in a convoy of 11 vehicles met residents of Tremseh on July 14 and inspected sites that were targeted by Syrian army tanks and helicopter gunships.

Earlier, angry villagers near Tremseh showed monitors spent government tank shells -- accusing Russia of providing weapons and ammunition used in the killings.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says there is "indisputable evidence" the Syrian regime "deliberately murdered civilians" in the village.

Damascus says terrorists carried out the killings.

Meanwhile, opposition activists say hundreds of government troops, backed by attack helicopters, were attacking the southern town of Khirbet Ghazaleh in Daraa province on July 14.
