Lavrov rejects exporting military equipment to Syria

Moscow, June 24, IRNA -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied the recent allegations by the Western media regarding dispatch of military aircraft to Syria.

“Unlike the allegations by the Western media regarding dispatch of military equipment to Syria in MV Alaed vessel, the mentioned vessel only carried spare parts of helicopters and knocked down helicopters parts as per an agreement signed before between the two countries,” he added.

He noted that the helicopters were dismantled into pieces and sent to Russia in order to undergo repair there.

“There is no reason for apology, because we have not violated anything,” Lavrov added.

The Russian foreign minister noted that according to agreements signed between Moscow and Damascus, only the military equipment such anti-aircraft missiles with deterring effect will be delivered to Syria for defense purposes.
