Iran official briefs challenges Annan's plan is facing

Damascus, May 30, IRNA -- Iran's ambassador to Syria here on Wednesday outlined several challenges the plan proposed by the UN special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan is facing.
Mohammad Reza Raoof Sheibani told IRNA that he has already held talks here with Annan on his proposed plan.
The Iranian official said arrival of new elements called al-Qaeda in the current developments in Syria is one of the main crises facing the plan, adding that this group has created imbalance in the plan.
He reiterated that continued support of certain countries for this group is another challenge facing Annan's plan.
Raoof Sheibani further stressed that Tehran supports Annan's steps towards settlement of Syrian crisis through diplomacy.
The Iranian envoy voiced Annan's concern over interference of certain countries and groups in the domestic affairs of Syria, saying such behavior would make the situation more complicated.
