Iran calls for release of all kidnapped citizens in Syria soon

Damascus, Feb 9, IRNA -- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossien Amir-Abdollahian hoped for freedom of the remaining abducted Iranian nationals in Syria soon.

The diplomat made the remarks at Damascus airport while speaking to IRNA before he left the Syrian capital for Tehran on Wednesday night.

Amir-Abdollahian visited Syria on Febryary 7-8 to discuss major bilateral issues as well as regional developments with senior Syrian officials.

'Iran’s Foreign Ministry is seriously following up the case of the kidnapped Iranian nationals including seven engineers working in Jandar power plant in Syria,” he said.

He added that according to reports all of the abducted Iranians were in good conditions.

Amir-Abdollahian stressed that any report on the freedom of the abducted nationals would be immediately published to the public.

Iranian natioianls including 22 pilgrims as well as the seven engineers have been kidnapped by gunmen in Syria in diferrent indidents. Some 11 out of the total 29 Iranians were released on February 6.
