IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Ankara, Nov 17, IRNA -- Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that his country is opposed to any attack on Syria and he believes that the events happened in Iraq and Libya should not be repeated in Syria.

In a meeting with the Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi, President Gul said that enemies of the Muslims are seeking to wage a crusade and that the regional states should not fall in such a trap.

President Gul appreciated Iran's relief aid to the quake-stricken province of Van and said that the humanitarian assistance to the quake victims revealed that the two nations bonds are profound.

Boroujerdi, for his part, expressed pleasure with the growing trend of cooperation between the two nations.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Boroujerdi described the US allegation that Iran hired a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate Saudi ambassador to Washington as ridiculous.

Trying to divert the public attention away from internal problems, the US hatching new plots, he said.

Boroujerdi criticized the Arab League for obeying the US order by suspending Syrian membership.
